Mikey Garcia: record, next fight and profile →

Quietly, promoter Bob Arum is crossing his fingers and hoping that both Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko emerge from their respective bouts victoriously.

Mikey Garcia believes Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk is all his to lose. The recently retired four-division champion from Oxnard, California recently had a chance to observe London’s Joshua train for his highly anticipated heavyweight title unification rematch with Ukraine’s Usyk on Aug. 20 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Joshua looks to win back the WBO, WBA, and IBF titles he lost to Usyk in their first fight last September at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Mikey Garcia clearly has no intentions of gloving up again. The former four-division champion from Southern California quietly announced his retirement from the sport last month when he changed his Instagram profile to read “Retired World Champ 126, 130, 135, 140 lbs.” While his older brother and trainer, Robert Garcia, confirmed in subsequent interviews that he was retired, Garcia did not come out with his own statement.

Mikey Garcia, a former four-division champion, is stepping away from boxing at the age of 34. Garcia, who finishes his career with a record of 40-2 against 30 knockouts, made the news relatively inconspicuously on his Instagram page, in which he changed his profile to read “Retired World Champ 126, 130, 135, 140 lbs.”

Mikey Garcia thinks Errol Spence’s surgically-repaired left eye is the wild card in the latter’s upcoming bout against Yordenis Ugas. Although it has not been formally announced yet, Spence and Ugas are scheduled to face each other in the spring in a welterweight unification bout that will put up for grabs

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - It wasn’t Mikey Garcia’s first dalliance with inactivity. In fact, the California-born stylist and former four-division title claimant was no stranger to long stretches on the shelf – having taken a 30-month pause from January 2014 to July 2016 before locking down the back half of his jewelry quartet with wins over Dejan Zlaticanin and Sergey Lipinets.

Regis Prograis is still smarting over missing out on what would have been a once-in-a-career opportunity. For a time the Houston-based southpaw was involved in serious discussions to fight four-division champion Mikey Garcia. But Garcia decided to take a tune-up fight against unheralded Spaniard contender Sandor Martin this past October, only to lose by stunning majority decision: one judge had it a draw, while two others had Martin up 97-93.

Conor Benn remains hopeful that Eddie Hearn will be able to offer Adrien Broner enough money to entice the former champion to box Benn early in 2022.

Last month, Sandor Martin hit a homerun in Fresno after defeating four division world champion Mikey Garcia with a stunning twelve round decision. The career of 'Arrasandor' is about to enter another dimension and his goal is clear: "To be world champion."

Mikey Garcia is rethinking his career following a massive upset loss via majority decision to Sandor Martin. The former four-division champion is eyeing a move back down to 140 after campaigning at welterweight in a 2020 win over Jessie Vargas, and a one-sided loss to Errol Spence Jr. in 2019.
