Yesterday a press release was distributed stating that former four-division champion Mikey Garcia had reached a promotional agreement with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing. Hearn had been talking to Garcia for over a year and a deal was culminated last week.
His next fight will take place on February 29th and will be streamed live on DAZN. Garcia will be fighting for the first time since last March when he moved up two weight classes and lost a unanimous decision to Errol Spence in Texas.
BoxingScene.com has been advised that a deal is nearly finalized for Garcia to take on former two-division champion Jessie Vargas in his DAZN debut.
Vargas, who is also signed by Matchroom, last fought in April when he stopped Humberto Soto in 6 rounds at the Forum in Inglewood, California. The bout was fought at a catchweight of 151 pounds. The catchweight was agreed upon for Vargas to test the waters above the welterweight division.
After the fight, Vargas told BoxingScene.com that he planned to campaign at the full 154 pound super welterweight limit. Vargas had been in negotiations for a fight against then WBO super welterweight champion Jaime Munguia but an agreement wasn't reached.
Vargas is planning on going back down to the welterweight division for at least one more fight as the bout against Garcia would take place at 147 pounds.
