Mikey Garcia Hopes To Secure Manny Pacquiao Clash Next

According to former four division world champion Mikey Garcia, a clash against WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao could be on the horizon for 2020.

Garcia has been out of the ring since suffering his first career defeat back in March, when he moved up by two full weight classes to the welterweight division and was dominated over twelve rounds by IBF world champion Errol Spence.

Pacquiao has had a banner year, with a one-sided performance over Adrien Broner back in January, and then a twelve round decision over undefeated Keith Thurman in July to capture the WBA title.

Garcia has yet to make a final determination about his future weight class - but he's pushed for a fight against Pacquiao for some time.

Garcia (39-1, 30 KOs) indicates that his team has been in talks to face Pacquiao (62-7-39 KOs) in 2020, but cautions that nothing has been secured or finalized. Among the names being rumored for the Filipino star, Mikey Garcia and Danny Garcia are regarded as the two frontrunners.

“We’ve been discussing a fight against Manny Pacquiao for a long time now, and it seems like it’s very close and it can actually happen. Nothing is secure. He has some obligations [with his political career] right now. He’s still busy with that, but the last thing I heard, he’s interested in fighting in the early part of the summer. There’s still no opponent secured. That’s why I want to jump in and try and get that fight,” Garcia told Fighthype.com.

Garcia would have no trouble traveling anywhere for that fight, but he would expect Las Vegas to secure it.

“Wherever the fans can enjoy it the most. Most likely that fight lands in Vegas. Let’s be honest, we have most of our fans here. Not everyone is going to be able to make the trip out to Saudi Arabia or some exotic location - but I’m open to fighting anywhere else as well," Garcia said.

Didn't trust Mikey before the Spence fight and I definitely don't trust him now.
