Cuban heavyweight contender Mike Perez (21-2-1, 13KOs) is scheduled to make his return to the ring on December 8th at the Orange County Fairgrounds, Costa Mesa, California.

Alexander Povetkin knocked out Mike Perez in the first round in Moscow on Friday night to move closer to a heavyweight title fight. The Russian won inside the distance for the 21st time in 30 professional fights, finishing the elimination bout in 91 seconds. He can now challenge the winner of the fight between WBC champion Deontay Wilder and Eric Molina who meet on June 13. The 35-year-old Povetkin, the 2004 Olympic Games heavyweight champion, improved his professional record to 29-1 and again showed the power that makes him a dangerous challenger.

Alexander Povetkin seeks another shot at heavyweight glory, while Mike Perez is given one more chance to crack into the upper echelon of boxing’s most historically storied division. The two contenders collide Friday evening in Moscow, Russia. The winner gets a crack at unbeaten heavyweight titlist Deontay Wilder. Povetkin (28-1, 20KOs) suffered his lone career loss at the hands of World heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko more than 18 months ago, having rebounded with two straight wins. The former titlist has remained near the top of the division, on the strength of knockout wins over Manuel Charr and Carlos Takam in a strong 2014 campaign.

Alexander Povetkin needed just 91 seconds to plead his case for another title shot, twice dropping Mike Perez en route to a 1st round knockout Friday evening in Moscow, Russia. With the win, Povetkin is now the mandatory challenger to unbeaten heavyweight titlist Deontay Wilder.

Promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions is excited about tomorrow's high stakes heavyweight fight in Moscow, between 29-year-old Cuban boxer Mike Perez (21-1-1, 13KOs) and 35-year-old Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin (28-1, 20KOs) of Russia. The two fighters will battle in an WBC final heavyweight eliminator. The winner will earn a shot at World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32KOs), who next month defends his title in a voluntary bout against Eric Molina in Alabama.

All fighters are weighed in and set for the loaded fight card Friday evening in Moscow, Russia. Alexander Povetkin and Mike Perez meet in a bout to determine the next mandatory challenger for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Povetkin (28-1, 20KOs) weighed in at 232.4 lbs., the heaviest of his career. Perez (21-1-1, 13KOs) tipped the scales at 240.5 lbs., slightly less than the 242.25 he weighed for his points loss to Bryant Jennings last summer, but still well above his normal fighting weight of 230–235 lbs. Also on the show are a pair of cruiserweight bouts, both of which feature late replacements.

Stateside fight fans won’t have to stress over finding grainy (and illegal) streams to catch the loaded fight card in Moscow. ESPN plans to air the card—topped by Alexander Povetkin and Mike Perez in a heavyweight title eliminator—through its various platforms, it was announced Thursday afternoon.

A major pre-fight presser took place at the Renaissance Hotel in Moscow, Russia, on the eve of the second huge boxing card promoted by “World of Boxing” this year. The show will be headlined by the WBC heavyweight eliminator between Ismaikel “Mike” Perez of Cuba and 2004 Athens super heavyweight gold medalist Alexander Povetkin. Also on the card is WBC cruiserweight titleholder Grigory Drozd, who risks his belt against late sub Lukasz Janik. While Janik was not in attendance other main heroes took the stage alongside their coaches Sergey Vasiliev (Drozd), Ivan Kirpa (Povetkin) and Colin Morgan (Perez). As always, taking the central seat was promoter of the event Andrey Ryabinskiy, owner of the WOB. He was also the first one to address the media. Aside of usual compliments and basic advertisements there were some interesting extra points, put forward by the participants, presented in the excerpt below.

Cuban heavyweight Mike Perez (21-1, 13KOs) is training hard in Russia for the final WBC eliminator against Alexander Povetkin (28-1, 20KOs) on May 22nd in Moscow, Russia. Povetkin has been able to recover strong from a 2013 twelve round decision loss to Wladimir Klitschko. He came back last year to score impressive knockout victories over Manuel Charr and Carlos Takam, who fought Perez to a draw last year. For his part, Perez lost a twelve round split decision to Bryant Jennings in July, but came back in February of this year to stop Darnell Wilson in two rounds.

Following a previously announced doubleheader, the full card being presented by “World of Boxing” on May 22 in Moscow, Russia, has been announced in a series of statements and articles; both sent over media and posted on the WoB’s official portal. As always, the card will be held in GCKZ “Rossija” (State Central Concert Hall “Russia”), a part of “Luzhniki” territory. A total of six bouts will be presented. In the main event, top-rated heavyweight Alexander Povetkin (28-1, 20 KOs) will risk his WBC Silver title against Cork-based TBRB #10 Cuban Mike Perez (21-1-1, 13 KOs). Perez, 29, is also rated #2 by the WBC, whilst Povetkin, 35, is #1 under the same sanctioning body. The bout has been ordered as a final eliminator by the World Boxing Council.
