Mike Lee will keep a watchful eye on the Badou Jack-Marcus Browne light heavyweight bout Saturday night in Las Vegas. The undefeated light heavyweight contender could see himself fighting the Jack-Browne winner next. Lee, 31, also is interested in challenging IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev.
Mike Lee always wanted to bring the biggest fights of his career to Chicago. The undefeated light heavyweight contender’s handlers intend to do just that by having him face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the United States’ third-largest city later this year. Lee grew up in Wheaton, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, graduated from Notre Dame with a degree in finance and proved he can sell tickets in his home area when he fought three times in Chicago and twice in nearby Rosemont.

Lee won a 10 round unanimous decision over Jose Hernandez Friday night at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. It looked like it would be an early night as Lee stunned Hernandez midway through the opening round. Hernandez, who entered the bout having won his previous seven bouts, recovered to close the distance and walk Lee down during the first half of the fight.

It’s been a lot longer road than many thought there would be when he turned pro in 2010, so I wonder if Lee thought this day would ever come when title shots were in the conversation.

There was a time late this summer that Mike Lee thought he would get a shot at Andre Ward. Representatives for Lee and Ward had discussions about them boxing before the end of this year, but Ward eventually decided to retire. With Ward no longer an option, the undefeated Lee would like to take on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Chavez wants to come back from his loss to Canelo Alvarez later this year, but hasn’t solidified an opponent.
