Miguel Marriaga: record, next fight and profile →
Miguel Marriaga is back! "The Scorpion" takes on Mexican fighter Jorge “Chicharo” Garcia on Friday, April 30, in Mexico City for the WBC Fecarbox Featherweight Championship in EstrellaTV’s "Boxeo EstrellaTV" at 10 P.M. ET/9 p.m CT.
Veteran Miguel Marriaga (29-4, 25 KOs) made it clear that he is still not thinking about retiring from the ring, despite the fact that he lost in his last fight, this past weekend, at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.
The stakes for Saturday’s fight mattered little to Joet Gonzalez throughout the buildup to his showdown with Colombia’s Miguel Marriaga. Now with the fight out of the way and armed with his biggest career win to date, the Los Angeles native is prepared to look to the future.

A shot at a featherweight title is at stake this weekend, though Miguel Marriaga will simply settle for winning one “for the culture.” The veteran contender from Arjona, Colombia carries a four-fight win streak into Saturday’s clash with Los Angeles’ Joet Gonzalez (23-1, 14KOs), which airs live on ESPN+ from The Bubble at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The battle of former featherweight title challengers is the first of a 2020 year that has not at all been kind to Marriaga (29-3, 25KOs) or any of his countrymen.
Miguel Marriaga can only hope that the third time will be the charm. It serves as the number of training camps that the veteran featherweight contender has endured just to get to his first fight of 2020. Adding to his frustrations is the fact that Marriaga has taken part in fight week activities on each occasion, only to watch his two previously scheduled bouts fall apart for drastically different reasons.
Nearly eleven months after delivering the worst performance of his pro career, Joet Gonzalez has a clear shot at redemption. The Los Angeles-based featherweight contender is set for a scheduled 10-round bout versus Colombia’s Miguel Marriaga (29-3, 25KOs) in a pairing of former 126-pound title challengers. The two will meet this Saturday, live on ESPN+ from the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, with the winner to secure another crack at the featherweight title.
