On Saturday night, Miguel Berchelt applied a small but strong dose of poison to annihilate Argentine challenger Jonathan Barros in the third round to successfully defend his WBC super featherweight title for the third time.
With seven thousand people filling the Poliforum Zamna to cheer him on, Berchelt (34-1, 30 KO's) imposed the conditions with his strength and punishment.
And Barros (42-6-1, 22 KOs) was in trouble from the very first round and he was never able to spin a response - and it didn't take long before Berchelt sent Barros down to the mat in the second round.
Barros was able to survive the onslaught in the second, but the contest was not going to last much longer.
In the third round, Berchelt pushed forward with his destructive work by landing combinations to the body and face of Barros, who fell to the canvas, got up and continued to receive punishment until Barros' corner invaded the ring and stopped the fight.
"I felt strong, there was no way the Argentinean would beat me, especially in front of my Yucatecan people. I thank God, I feel happy and I gave them a victory," Berchelt said.
Now Berchelt has to make a mandatory defense against Miguel Roman, who claims the champion was running scared.
Berchelt is very annoyed with some of the statements that were made by Roman and now he wants to dish out a lot of punishment when they finally collide in the ring.
"Mikey Roman, you have to answer for everything you've talked about, so get ready because I'll take your head off. We'll be ready and we're going to put you right back to reality and make you pay for every word that you've declared about me," Berchelt said.
"You're going to swallow your words. I will respond with my fists and secure an overwhelming win."
