Miguel “El Alacrán” Berchelt (35-1) and Francisco “Bandito” Vargas (25-1-2) were supposed to square off on March 23rd at The Forum in Inglewood, California in a rematch of their January, 2017 bout that Berchelt won via 11th round TKO.

The fight was 96-94, 96-94 and 95-95 in Berchelt’s favor prior to the stoppage.

The rematch was postponed when Berchelt injured his right hand during his training camp.

Berchelt, who won the WBC super featherweight champion when he defeated Vargas, has advised BoxingScene.com that his hand is full healed and that the fight will likely take place on May 11th.

“My hand is feeling great. We are waiting for it to be confirmed but May 11th is supposed to be the date,” said Berchelt.

As for the fight itself, Berchelt said that the fans can expect another great battle and a potential Fight of the Year candidate.

“Tell the fans they shouldn’t miss the fight. I am a fighter who always puts on a great show and this rematch versus Bandito will not be an exception,” Berchelt told BoxingScene.com. “Whenever you have two Mexicans in the ring you are guaranteed a great fight.

Berchelt has successfully defended his title four times while Vargas has picked up two victories since losing his title.
