Jim Murren, MGM Resorts International Chairman and CEO, confirmed his company has reserved the date of May 2nd, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. According to the Grand Rapids Press, Murren revealed the information during a conference call to discuss the 2014/2015 financials for his company.
Murren hopes the fight that lands there is the much discussed super-fight between welterweight champions Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. The negotiations are ongoing, with both sides claiming things are moving along at a positive pace.
"I'm only just reacting to what's in the paper," Murren said. "We are going to have a fight. We hope it's a big, big fight. If it is the fight we hope it is, then it is the biggest fight."
The negotiations have been complex with both fighters having exclusive deals to rival TV networks. CBS/Showtime (Mayweather) and HBO/Time Warner (Pacquiao) are working out the final details and some expect an announcement could be made, in one form or the other, as early as this week.
