BoxingScene.com was just informed that Jorge Barrios stunned everyone at the weight-in by making the contract limit of 130-pounds. Yesterday, we reported that Barrios was walking around heavy, I heard at 137-pounds. There was some fear that he may not be able to make the 130-pound limit for Saturday's bout with Rocky Juarez (27-4, 19 KOs), and the two sides reached an agreement to let Barrios weigh in at the limit of 133. As part of the agreement, Barrios would have had to pay Juarez a significant amount of money.
Onlookers were shocked when Barrios came in at 130 on the nose, and it was Juarez who was overweight on the first try at 130.5 and would make the weight on the second try at 130. Some onlookers were so stunned over Barrios making weight that he stepped on the scale for a second time and was once again at 130.
One Barrios team member told BoxingScene.com "Barrios played with Rocky's head. He saw Rocky and his whole team were in shock when he made the weight. He always knew that he could make the weight and it was Rocky who was half-a-pound over. Barrios has already beat him mentally and tomorrow will beat him in the ring by making good on his prediction of a four-round knockout."
Juan Diaz and Michael Katsidis were fine, both weighed in at 134.5 for their main event war. Both fights will be televised live on HBO from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
