Mayorga Vows: I'll KO That Mexican in One - Or Retire For Life!

Former two-division world champion Ricardo Mayorga (31-9-1, 25 KOs) is training had to return to the ring in Managua on April 1, after a long stint of inactivity.

His return was officially announced a few weeks ago by former world champion Rosendo Alvarez, who along with his wife Ruth Rodríguez run the company Bufalo Boxing Promotions - which is currently the most prominent promotional company in Nicaraguan boxing.

Mayorga will return to the ring against Mexican fighter Jaudiel Zepeda at a catch-weight of 165-pounds.

Mayorga was present at a press conference on Thursday and promised to score a first round knockout. If he fails to live up to that prediction, he promises to fully retire from the sport.

"I'm going to knock that Mexican out in the first round, and if I don't... then I'm going to retire for life. I will not to make a fool of myself,"  Mayorga told a news conference.

If Mayorga is successful in his next fight, Alvarez will try to get him a fight with another former world champion, Luis Ramón "Yori Boy" Campas, in a match that would be held this year.

"The plans for the return of  two-time world champion Ricardo 'El Matador' Mayorga is a fact and if he wins (on April 1) his next fight is already confirmed, it would be with the legendary former world champion Yori Boy Campas at a date and place to be defined," explained Rosendo.

The Mexican boxer Zepeda has a record of 12-17-1, with 9 knockouts. He was born in Culiacan, Sinaloa, but currently lives in Indio, California, United States. He has not won a fight since October 2009, while Mayorga's last victory came in December 2014, when he defeated Mexican boxer Andrik Saralegui in Managua. In his last fight, which took place in August of 2015, Mayorga was knocked out by three division beltholder Shane Mosley.

Campas, for his part, fought for the last time a year ago in Montana. His last three fights were not endorsed by local boxing commissions. His record is 106 wins, 81 KOs, with 17 losses and 3 draws. Campas is riding a five fight win streak.
