Leigh Wood landed 50% of his power punches while Mauricio Lara threw 65 more and landed 7 more. Lara’s 60th landed power punch, a left hook, put Wood down and prompted Wood’s corner to throw in the towel.
While the CompuBox totals ended up very close, prior to the sudden ending, Wood seemed to have grabbed control of his fight by keeping Lara at distance with jabs to the body followed by hooks.
Lara was reduced to lunging in and absorbing Wood’s punches while looking for an opening to land his. Lara found that opening in the 7th round and capitalized on it.
