Maurice Hooker: record, next fight and profile →
With all the spectacular knockouts, upsets and great fights that took place last year, 2020 should be as good, if not better, right? There are some blockbuster and spectacular fights on the horizon through February, with the big one taking place on Feb. 22 between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas.
The dynamic coaching trio of Brian "BoMac" McIntyre, Esau Dieguez and Red Spikes was already known across the boxing world for their success with three-division World Champion Terence "Bud" Crawford, but 2019 has been a breakout year for the team. With the additions of two former world champions, Maurice Hooker and Robert Brant, to their stable and a world title victory for Jamel "Semper Fi" Herring, 2019 was a year to remember for the three-headed monster.
This fight for Maurice Hooker was simply about returning to the win column. His expectations for the next time are about returning to the title picture. The former 140-pound titlist from Dallas, Texas rebounded from his first career defeat, tearing through late replacement Uriel Perez in one round Friday evening live on DAZN from Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. The fight was his first since losing his title to Jose Ramirez in their spirited junior welterweight unification clash this past July in nearby Arlington.
