Everything is bigger in Texas – and that’s just what Maurice Hooker plans to be as he prepares for his Super-Lightweight unification clash with Jose Ramirez on Saturday night at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.
NEW YORK – Maurice Hooker knows he’ll have his hands full with Jose Ramirez. If Hooker can win their 140-pound title unification fight, though, Hooker hopes he gets a chance to oppose Regis Prograis. If Prograis can beat Josh Taylor in the final of the World Boxing Super Series and Hooker overcomes Ramirez, a bout between Hooker and Prograis would be for complete supremacy in their division.
NEW YORK – Maurice Hooker stepped on and off the scale so many times March 8, he lost count. The WBO junior welterweight champion eventually got down to his division’s 140-pound limit that day for his optional title defense versus Mikkel LesPierre.
Maurice Hooker says the pressure of fighting at home in a career defining fight will bring the best out of him when he meets WBC World Super-Lightweight ruler Jose Ramirez in unification clash on Saturday July 27 at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.
NEW YORK – There was only one place Maurice Hooker wouldn’t have gone to fight Jose Ramirez. As much as Hooker wants to prove himself against another 140-pound champion, he wouldn’t have agreed to meet Ramirez in Fresno, California. Ramirez, of nearby Avenal, California, has become one of the biggest attractions in American boxing at Fresno State University’s Save Mart Center, where he regularly has drawn crowds in excess of 10,000.
NEW YORK – The third bout between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin obviously is the biggest fight DAZN can stream by the end of this summer. In its own way, though, Eddie Hearn considers Jose Ramirez-Maurice Hooker to be an extremely important fight for the fledgling streaming service. The British promoter thinks the fact that Ramirez’s promoter, Bob Arum, accepted DAZN’s lucrative package for Ramirez to face Hooker in a junior welterweight title unification fight that’ll be streamed by ESPN’s competition is an imperative step toward making more matches often-frustrated fans want to watch.

Three fights into his present title reign, there was no time like the present for Maurice Hooker to enjoy a homecoming. His promoters made good on that promise in a very big way. The unbeaten World Boxing Organization (WBO) 140-pound titlist will return to the greater Dallas area for a July 27 unification bout versus Jose Ramirez, who puts his World Boxing Council (WBC) title at stake. The bout—easily the biggest fight of his eight career—will headline a live DAZN-streamed event at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
