Maurice Hooker Arrested, Allegedly Driving While Intoxicated

Newly crowned WBO lightweight champion Maurice Hooker (24-0-3, 16 KOs) was arrested early Tuesday morning, for allegedly driving while intoxicated in Dallas, Texas.

Hooker was booked by the Dallas Police at 7:05am (mugshot found below) on Tuesday. A bond of $1,500 was set.

He was charged for driving while intoxicated and unlawful carry of handgun by a licensed holder - which is issued when a licensed carrier is impaired.

According to details being reported in Dallas (which don't name Hooker directly but sources indicate he was the involved driver), two police officers were hurt in an accident that allegedly began with Hooker driving.

At around 2am Tuesday, one officer was pulling over a speeding car near a construction zone on Stemmons Freeway, north of Downtown Dallas.
 
The car hit another squad car that was set up to protect construction workers - and that set off a chain reaction crash involving three police cars and a construction truck.

The two injured officers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two people in the speeding car were also hurt.

Hooker upset the odds last month, when he traveled to Manchester and won a twelve round decision over betting favorite Terry Flanagan to capture the vacant WBO title.

Hooker is now bound to make a mandatory defense against Alex Saucedo in the fall.
