Sampson Lewkowicz, adviser to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28KOs), is not bothered by trainer Freddie Roach's recent prediction - that former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31KOs) will stop Martinez in four rounds. The fight takes place on June 7th at New York's Madison Square Garden.
"They say the fight goes nine rounds, I think we win in four rounds. Miguel's ring generalship alone will win this fight. We have two more days of sparring, then four rounds of work and that's it. We are ready to fight," Roach said.
Lewkowicz is expecting nothing less than a TKO victory for Martinez in the later rounds.
"I can only laugh at these comments from Freddie Roach. When he talks like this, nobody takes him seriously. He said the same thing when Chavez Jr. fought Martinez. And then Chavez Jr. loses and there are a hundred excuses about why he lost. He said the same thing when Pacquiao fought Marquez and then Pacquiao got knocked out. He said Pacquiao would knock Rios out last year, that Bradley would get knocked out in April. I can give you a book of predictions from Freddie Roach that never came true. There is only one conclusion in this fight, Martinez will get a knockout in the second half," Sampson told BoxingScene.com.
