Former three division champion Shane Mosley is days away from one of the biggest fights of his career and many wonder if the veteran fighter is mentally focused for what should be a gueling fight with WBA welterweight champ Antonio Margarito. The January 24 encounter takes place at the Staples Center in California and HBO will televise.

Mosley's legal battle with Victor Conte, who ran the infamous BALCO lab, has been covered by every major media outlet. Mosley, among many other famous athletes, was a client of the BALCO lab and injected himself with supplements, which turned out to be illegal performance enchancing drugs, prior to his 2003 rematch with Oscar De La Hoya. Mosley has always stuck to the story that he was unware that any of the supplements were illegal. Conte has always stuck by the story that Mosley was well aware of the supplements being illegal and undetectable in drug tests. They are now involved in a court battle against each other, with both sides claiming the other is lying.

Bill Dwyre of the Los Angeles Times, spoke with Jack Mosley, father and former trainer of Shane, who told the writer that his son is currently going through marital problems with his wife, Jin. Shane has three children with his wife and there have been rumors of the marital situation being serious enough to eventually lead to a potential divorce. Jack told Dwyre, in not so many words, that Shane's marriage to Jin was the reason he was forced out.

"I was trainer and manager until Shane got married. Then, you know how that goes. The woman moved in and things changed," Jack said.

How serious is the marital situation? Jin was not only Shane's wife, but his manager and handled a lot of the negotiations for his fights. That is no longer the case. Richard Schaefer, CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, confirmed to the paper that Jin is out, and Shane is now handling all of his own business.

"Shane is now managing his own affairs," says Schaefer.

With martital problems hanging over his head, BALCO controversy and a legal battle with Conte, one has to wonder about the mental state of Shane on Saturday night.
