It’s a recurring theme in the career of someone who is rapidly living up to her self-proclaimed status as the G.W.O.A.T. of her sport. As the saying goes, to be great, a fighter needs that dance partner to bring the great out of her. Most famously, Ali had Frazier, and while we likely would have been calling “The Greatest” just that without his three bouts against “Smokin’ Joe,” their trilogy enhanced what was already a stellar resume.
Two-division undisputed world champion Claressa Shields has raised the stakes substantially and will now face no. 1 ranked middleweight contender Maricela “La Diva” Cornejo in the main event of action on Saturday, June 3 from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit and streamed live on DAZN in the U.S. and Canada.
Joe Ward accomplished Thursday night what he intended to do the first time he fought Marco Delgado. The Irish light heavyweight prospect defeated Delgado by unanimous decision in their six-round rematch. Judges Gerardo Martinez, Charlie Ruiz and Jose Roberto Torres each scored all six rounds for Ward, 60-54.
