Hveayweight banger Deontay Wilder predicts an easy victory for WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., when the pound-for-pound king faces WBA champion Marcos Maidana in a unification enouncter on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather returns from a dominating fall victory over former junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who Wilder views as a better fighter than Maidana.
David P. Greisman catches up with Robert Garcia, trainer for WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana, to discuss the upcoming unification with undefeated WBC champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fight is scheduled for May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with Showtime Pay-Per-View carrying the match.
Haute Living Los Angeles sat down for an in depth interview with WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. who returns to action on May 3rd in a unification showdown with WBA champion Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS - The hottest ticket in Las Vegas, not surprisingly, is for the May 3 mega-event headlined by boxing pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Marcos "El Chino" Maidana. However, for those who can't make it to the MGM Grand Garden Arena and still want to experience this event live, Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions are pleased to announce that several Las Vegas locations will be offering closed-circuit telecasts of "THE MOMENT: Mayweather vs. Maidana."
Nacho Beristain, longtime trainer of Juan Manuel Marquez, was asked Wednesday for his thoughts about Floyd Mayweather’s May 3 welterweight unification showdown with Argentina’s Marcos Maidana. Beristain had a ringside seat for the most lopsided decision defeat of Marquez’s career; his fighter was floored in the second frame and lost by double digits on two of the three cards (the third margin was in Mayweather’s favor by nine points).
While not an event blowing the roof of the house as was the case with “The One” last September, Floyd Mayweather’s next ring appearance is well on track for its second straight sold-out arena. The unbeaten pound-for-pound king faces Marcos Maidana on May 3, in front of a packed house at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in an event on pace to reap major financial rewards for all involved. “I anticipate any day that we will announce a complete sellout,” Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions noted during a recent conference to promote the event. “Tickets are sold out at (most of the price points).”
About a month ago, BoxingScene.com spoke to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, and he was trying to work out the numbers in order to put together an event where Floyd Mayweather Jr., Amir Khan, and Adrien Broner would all be in action in separate fights. For that to happen, a considerable amount of money would have to be invested in the undercard. How considerable? Schaefer told us back then - it would be the most expensive pay-per-view undercard to date.
By Lyle Fitzsimmons - By rule, we old guys tend to over-romanticize the past. Back in our day, we insist, the cars were faster, the women prettier and the food tastier. Or something like that. Anyway, under further review and across all walks of life, it’s not always the case. But when it comes to boxing, it seems the “things were better in the past” approach really does hold a little more water. We’ve all heard the gray-beards rant about the days of eight weight divisions, when champions fought several times a year and how matches between the best fighters were more common than today. And when it came to fight cards, well… there was more to them than simply a main event. As recently as the 1980s, in fact, when I attended my first professional shows, the evenings seemed far weightier from beginning to end than is typically case on today’s made-for-TV extravaganzas.
LONDON - Boxing’s biggest draw Floyd Mayweather will make his ring return live and exclusive on BoxNation in a stacked May 3rd card from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Long recognised as the number one pound-for-pound king in boxing, Mayweather has continuously broken records, with his previous clash against Mexican star Canelo Alvarez, screened on BoxNation, becoming the highest grossing pay-per-view boxing event of all time. The fight games biggest star, and the best dedicated boxing channel around, join forces once again as Mayweather puts his undefeated record on the line against Adrien Broner conqueror Marcos Maidana.
WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31KOs) views Adrien Broner as a physically stronger fighter than Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26KOs), the WBC champion at 147. Their unification takes place on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Broner was being pushed as the second coming of Mayweather. The two fighters are close friends. The push of Broner hit an Argentine brick wall when Maidana dropped him twice and won a twelve round unanimous decision to capture Broner's WBA title at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
