Badou Jack Talks Periban Fight, Mayweather-Canelo

•Sep 4, 2013

On July 19th, super middleweight contender Badou Jack (15-0) picked up the biggest win of his career when he won a one-sided unanimous decision over Farrah Ennis who was very hesitant to engage and spent most of the fight in safety first mode. Jack admitted that he wanted a knockout but said that Ennis' reluctance to exchange made it an almost impossible proposition. "It was an okay performance. I wanted a knockout but I didn't get it because that guy didn't want to fight. It was hard to stop him the way he fought. Next time we will try to get it," Jack stated.

Barclays Center, Brooklyn - The fourth time was the charm for veteran Sakio Bika, as he outlasted Marco Antonio Periban for the vacant WBC super middleweight title, winning a 12 round majority decision to become a world champion after three failed tries against Joe Calzaghe, Lucian Bute, and Andre Ward. It means a lot, said Bika. He was a very tough guy. I respect him. Scores were 116-112, 115-113, and 114-114 for Bika, now 32-5-2 with 21 KOs; Periban suffers his first pro defeat, falling to 20-1 with 13 KOs. Periban was a true ring general in the first round, with a stiff jab, effective movement, and solid defense keeping Bika from getting into any sort of rhythm. The Cameroon native began to get closer in the second round though, and the fact that Peribans punches were apparently not hurting him didnt bode well for the Mexicans future success.

At just 21 days before the biggest fight of his life, Mexican super middleweight Marco Antonio Peribán wants to be the successor of Andre Ward and said that Sakio Bika will not be a barrier to realizing his dream of becoming world champion. With 28 years old, Peribán said Ward left a wide gap for any Super Middleweight, but would love to get into that mix of warriors who now compose Ward, Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler and some more. Ward was the WBC's champion, but the World Boxing Council made the title vacant after Ward suffered an injury and indicated that he would need several months to recover.
