LAS VEGAS – Edgar Berlanga didn’t just suffer a bruised ego Saturday night. The super middleweight prospect left the ring at T-Mobile Arena with an injury to his left arm that could require surgery. Severe bruising above Berlanga’s left elbow was evident after his tougher-than-anticipated, 10-round, unanimous-decision victory over Marcelo Coceres on the Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder undercard.

LAS VEGAS – This was not the type of drama Edgar Berlanga had in mind Saturday night. The heavily hyped super middleweight prospect had to get off the canvas from a ninth-round knockdown to beat brave Argentinean Marcelo Coceres in their 10-round fight at T-Mobile Arena. Brooklyn’s Berlanga beat Coceres by unanimous decision, but going the distance against an opponent Billy Joe Saunders stopped and getting dropped raised questions about Berlanga’s potential.

LAS VEGAS – Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder weren’t allowed to come face-to-face Friday afternoon. Their promoters were fearful of an altercation after they weighed in on a stage at MGM Grand Garden Arena. They instead posed for photos separately, insulted each other from afar and saved most of their pent-up aggression for Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena, where these heavyweight rivals will fight for the third time in an ESPN/FOX Sports Pay-Per-View main event.
Edgar Berlanga is eager to resume his knockout ways. The most recent bout ring appearance saw the unbeaten super middleweight prospect go the distance for the first time in his career, claiming a lopsided eight-round, unanimous decision win over Demond Nicholson. Brooklyn’s Berlanga had never previously seen the second round of a pro fight before that April night on ESPN in Kissimmee, Florida, though managed to handle his business in showing he was more than just a mindless puncher.

Brooklyn’s newest young knockout prodigy and a former unified world champion from Philadelphia will see action Saturday, Oct. 9 at T-Mobile Arena in preliminary bouts before the highly anticipated heavyweight trilogy grudge match between WBC and lineal heavyweight world champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury and former heavyweight world champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder.
