As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, a proposed fight between WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi, and "Sugar" Shane Mosley, has fallen apart for April 27th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Malignaggi (32-4, 7KOs) told BoxingScene that he wants to fight former champion Marcos Maidana (33-3, 30KOs) on the April date.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who promotes both Malignaggi and Maidana, has two fights in mind - and they don't include the those boxers facing each other.

Schaefer would like to match Malignaggi against former two-time welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-2, 22KOs). In his last fight, Berto lost a spirited twelve round decision to Robert Guerrero in November. A fight between Berto and Malignaggi was briefly discussed a few years ago, when both boxers were promoted by Lou DiBella.

In terms of Maidana, Schaefer wants to match him in a mouthwatering fight against Argentine countryman Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30KOs). Matthysse would first have to take care of business on Saturday night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, where he faces Mike Dallas Jr. in a Showtime televised fight.

"I'm hoping that Lucas wins this weekend because one of the fights that I've been discussing is Lucas Matthysse and Marcos Maidana. That's a fight that we want to do," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.

"Another fight that I'm interested in doing is Andre Berto against Paulie Malignaggi. I want to see what happens with Lucas, but I think this is a fight that fight fans really want to see - Matthysse against Maidana. That is one fight that I'm going to try to make and then see if I can make Berto against Malignaggi."
