Golden Boy Promotions recently announced that they are close to reaching an agreement to match WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner against former junior middleweight champion Marcos Maidana.
There is no love lost between the two fighters as they have engaged in numerous exchanges on Twitter and also had a confrontation in Las Vegas during fight week for the Floyd Mayweather-Canelo Alvarez fight.
Maidana is normally very reserved and respectful towards his opponents but repeatedly told the press, "F*** Broner! F*** Broner!"
BoxingScene.com recently caught up with Maidana to talk about the fight and to find out why he has been much more vocal than he has been in the past.
"I have never gone up against someone like Broner who talks so bad about his opponents. That is why you see more animated than I usually am. Beating Broner will mean more to me than a lot of my other fights. It is a very important fight," Maidana stated.
The Argentine said that he hopes to have the support of all of Latino fans on fight night and plans on giving them an impressive performance.
"Usually all Latinos support each other and the Mexicans are no difference. I think they will be supporting me as well against Broner," said Maidana.
When Maidana first started his career he relied mostly on his power punches and his jab was virtually non-existent. Since retaining the services of world class trainer Robert Garcia, Maidana has developed a potent jab and said that it will be a key to winning the fight.
"The jab is going to be very important in this fight. It is a key punch to set up other punches throughout the fight. Robert Garcia has really helped me develop it," Maidana told BoxingScene.com.
