Magomed Kurbanov: record, next fight and profile →
German Titov, and his son Alexey, are prepared for yet another huge local show, which is about to take place at the DIVS in Ekaterinburg, Russia, under RCC Boxing Promotions, on April 22. As always, the card will feature a number of competitive bouts – at least on paper – and a chance to witness a rise of a new generation of fighters.
Russian boxer Magomed Kurbanov is scheduled to return to the ring on May 5 in Yekaterinburg, Russia. And the potential opponent in the other corner is none other than former world champion Antonio Margarito of Mexico, according to the director of the promotional company RCC Boxing Promotion Alexei Titov.
In an upset Friday, cruiserweight/heavyweight journeyman Yuri Bykhovtsev of Belarus added another victim to his hit list. Bykhovtsev spoiled the record of Russian heavyweight Gasan Gimbatov (3-1, 2 KOs) after a timid six-rounder on the Alexander Povetkin-Christian Hammer undercard in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
Ekaterinburg, the jewel of Ural, is getting ready for one of its biggest cards in history on December 15. There will be no major title fights – as was the case several years ago when then-WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog competed in the biggest city nearside the virtual border between Europe and Asia. Instead of making a single high-profile attraction, local promotional stalwart German Titov, now partnering his son Alexey, who continues the dynasty, will put up a well-packed show with no less than nine perfectly matched-up fights.
Russia - WBO #8, WBA #10 and IBF/WBC #14 light middleweight Magomed "The Black Lion" Kurbanov (12-0, 9 KOs) should have fought ring legend Shane Mosley (firstly in May, then tonight) had Sugar Shane not retired this summer. Kurbanov fought unheralded and relatively unknown WBO #5 Czech Stepan Horvath instead, and Horvath almost turned into Mosley for Kurbanov, at least dropping him once. Kurbanov enjoyed a final victory - with a close unanimous decision - but it was by far harder than anyone expected.
Former three division world champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley (49-10-1, 41 KOs), 45 years old, has decided to join the recent pack, by announcing his retirement from boxing. In the last few weeks, Wladimir Klitschko, Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley and Robert Guerrero made their own retirement announcements from the sport.
A fight card, which is expected to take place under the RCC Boxing Promotions on September 9 in the Old Russian city of Chelyabinsk, is getting bigger with each coming week. RCC Boxing Promotions is a new brand, organized by German Titov and his son Alexey, with a help of some investors.
The former world champion in three weight divisions, 'Sugar' Shane Mosley, is unable to fight hot Russian fighter Magomed Kurbanov. Mosley was unable to go forward due to a back injury, according to the chief executive of the promotional company RCC Boxing Promotion, Alexey Titov. The fight was originally scheduled to take place on May 5 in Yekaterinburg. The fight was postponed after Mosley had a back injury and was forced to undergo surgery. They pushed back the fight to September 9th.
Light middleweight prospect Magomed Kurbanov (11-0, 9 KOs) went 5-0, 4 KOs, in 2016, including a shutout over 50-7-5 Filipino Dennis Laurente, getting WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver 154lb and WBC Eurasia Pacific 154lb titles in process. Kurbanov, 21, who was scheduled to take on Shane Mosley this May (the fight was re-scheduled for the fall due to Mosley’s injury), was declared WBC Asia Silver champion.
WBO #2 super featherweight Evgueny Chuprakov totally dominated Filipino import Eden Sonsona (36-7-3, 13 KOs) in five rounds to retain his WBO I/C 135lb title. Chuprakov (now 18-0, 10 KOs) dropped Sonsona in round three with a couple of left hands to the head, then in the fourth after what was arguably a kidney punch. Sonsona was pummeled again in the fifth and finally turned his back onto the local hero, forcing referee to call it off at 1:31 of the fifth.
