Luke Campbell can’t quite tell if Ryan Garcia is actually underestimating him or if the brash, unbeaten lightweight is simply selling their lightweight title bout by boldly predicting a knockout. Either way, Campbell can’t wait to teach his 22-year-old opponent a costly lesson Saturday night at American Airlines Center in Dallas. Campbell believes he has entirely too much experience and skill for the emerging Garcia, who is consistently listed as a 3-1 favorite over him.

Luke Campbell isn’t concerned about ring rust as he approaches his huge fight against Ryan Garcia on Saturday night in Dallas. England’s Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs) hasn’t boxed since Vasiliy Lomachenko thoroughly defeated him in August 2019 at O2 Arena in London. Ukraine’s Lomachenko (14-2, 10 KOs) knocked Campbell to the canvas in the 11th round of their 12-round fight for the WBA, WBC and WBO lightweight titles and won by wide distances on all three scorecards (119-108, 119-108, 118-109).

Trainer Shane McGuigan is not about to let his confidence in Luke Campbell detract from his pragmatist outlook. A 33-year-old native of the UK, Campbell will go into enemy territory on Jan. 1 when he swaps punches with the sharpshooting Tik-Tok phenom Ryan Garcia, 22, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Given Garcia’s popularity and the fact that he has home-court advantage (Garcia resides in Los Angeles, Calif.), McGuigan understands that his charge will need to do more than box his way to a victory. In fact, McGuigan thinks he needs to shoot for a stoppage.

Ryan Garcia’s last two opponents in Romero Duno and Francisco Fonseca have failed to make it out of the first round. If good things come in thirds, does that mean Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) will finish Luke Campbell inside of three minutes on Saturday at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas?

SAN ANTONIO – Teofimo Lopez thinks Luke Campbell’s boxing ability can cause difficulty for Ryan Garcia at times Saturday night. The unbeaten unified lightweight champion still suspects Garcia’s power will trump the British southpaw’s skills in their fight for the WBC interim 135-pound crown. From a business standpoint, Lopez (16-0, 12 KOs) wants Garcia to win because the 22-year-old contender is a popular American rival that the Brooklyn native eventually can fight.

Don’t expect Luke Campbell to be impressed by Ryan Garcia. And much as Garcia is seeing Campbell as a stepping stone to the top when they meet in Texas on Saturday night, Campbell sees the young American in much the same way.

DALLAS - Ryan Garcia has not at all been cryptic in his desire to clean out the lightweight division, though the dream fight which he most craves is much bigger in notoriety and in size. The unbeaten lightweight contender remains supremely confident ahead of Saturday’s interim title fight versus England’s Luke Campbell, to the point where Garcia is calling out his next opponent. On the short list of big fights in the 22-year old’s future is a showdown with fellow unbeaten budding superstar Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (24-0, 23KOs), with the intention of lining up that fight in the first half of 2021.
