Luis Nery: record, next fight and profile →
The stage is now offiicially set, for the return of the former world bantamweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), with 12 consecutive defenses, Shinsuke Yamanaka (27-1-2, 19KOs, 35 years old,Teiken Boxing Gym in Tokyo), will get the attempt to reclaim his title in a rematch with Luis "Pantera" Nery (25-0, 19 KOs) on the 1st of March in Tokyo, Japan.
Former World Boxing Council bantamweight champion, Shinsuke Yamanaka (27-1-2, 19KOs), is preparing like never before, for his rematch with Mexican Luis "Pantera" Nery, on March 1, in Tokyo, Japan. Yamanaka suffered a fourth round TKO last August in the city of Kyoto, failing in the thirteenth defense of his WBC bantamweight world title. Yamanaka has participated in a well-attended press conference, to promote this attractive card.
The representatives of World Boxing Council bantamweight champion Luis 'Panterita' Nery and former beltholder Shinsuke Yamanaka are indicating that they are close to an agreement to carry out the rematch in the first week of March on Japanese soil. Once the deal is officially reached, both sides will inform the WBC that purse bid is not necessary.
If everything goes well in Japan in the upcoming rematch with Shinsuke Yamanaka, then promoter Fernando Beltra of Mexico would not rule out the possibility of Luis 'Panterita' Nery going up against another Japanese fighter, Naoya Inoue, who is considered by many to be one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world.
Luis “Panterita” Nery (25-0) picked up another victory when he stopped Arthur Villanueva (31-3) in six rounds at the Gasmart Stadium in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. The official time of the stoppage was 1:19. The Filipino dropped Nery late in the fourth round but the rally was short lived as the knockdown appeared to help Nery refocus and batter Villanueva in the fifth. He continued his assault in the sixth and the referee stopped the fight when Villanueva stopped responding.
As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, the World Boxing Council ordered an immediate rematch between Shinsuke Yamanaka and Luis Nery for its bantamweight title on Tuesday, three months after the latter failed a drug test. The sanctioning body issued a ruling saying “the WBC cannot make a determination with sufficient certainty as to whether Mr. Nery’s adverse finding was the result of intentional ingestion of a banned substance to improve performance.”

On October of 2016, Luis Nery enrolled in the WBC Clean Boxing Program’s (“CBP”) out-of-competition anti-doping testing by virtue of being rated in the top 15 in the bantamweight division of the WBC world ratings. On August 22, 2017, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) reported to the WBC that Mr. Nery's “A” sample collected on July 27, 2017 in Tijuana, Mexico, yielded adverse analytical findings for Zilpaterol (the "Finding").[1] The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) includes Zilpaterol its list of banned substances, which list VADA uses as reference, thus making Zilpaterol banned under the WBC Clean Boxing Program in which Mr. Nery is enrolled. Mr. Nery did not request analysis of the corresponding "B" sample.
BoxingScene.com reported last week that Luis "Pantera" Nery has set his next ring return. The WBC bantamweight world champion will reappear on Saturday, November 4, at the Gasmart Stadium in Tijuana (home of the Bulls), to fight in a ten round "non-title" bout against dangerous Filipino "King" Arthur Villanueva in a main event that will be broadcast by Azteca 7, and internationally by Bein Sports
