Former world champion Luis Nery (33-1, 25 KOs) continued his run to a world title with a third round stoppage of veteran David Carmona (22-11-5, 9 KOs) at the Auditorio Municipal Fausto Gutierrez Moreno in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.
Nery controlled the first, dropped Carmona in the second and then two more times in the third.
The Mexican banger, ranked at number 1 under the World Boxing Council at super bantamweight, now inches closer to getting a crack at unified WBC, WBO champion Stephen Fulton.
Last May, Nery was stopped in seven rounds when he fought Brandon Figueroa in a high-stakes unification. Nery bounced back in February, with a ten round decision win over undefeated Carlos Castro.
Also on the card, Mexican female boxing legend, “La Princesa Azteca” Jackie Nava (40-4-4, 16 KOs), took part in the final bout of her pro career, with a ten round unanimous decision over Gloria Elena Yancaqueo (10-12-3, 3 KOs).
The fight, which place at super bantamweight, saw scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 97-93.
Nava, 42-years-old, turned pro in 2001 and fought at 122-pounds for the bulk of her career. She captured several world titles along the way. Some of her biggest career fights came against Ana Maria Torres, Mariana Juarez, Alicia Ashley and several others.
