Lucian Bute: record, next fight and profile →
Former super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-1, 24KOs) says the rematch with Carl Froch could "take place in the fall." Bute was stopped by Froch in five rounds on May 26th. There was a rematch clause for a return bout in Montreal. Both fighters have already taken interim-fights. Bute won a tough decision over Denis Grachev at a catch-weight of 170-pounds, and Froch knocked out Yusaf Mack.
Last week, former WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal threw a big verbal jab in the direction of fellow Canadian star Lucian Bute. Both boxers suffered big defeats in the last two years and both of them recently returned to the ring to secure wins. Pascal appears to be heading to rematch with WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson in March, and Bute is pushing to have a rematch with Carl Froch around the same time period.
Former WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal is back in the hunt for fellow Canadian star Lucian Bute. Former champion Lucian Bute wants his revenge against IBF king Carl Froch. In May of this year, Froch destroyed Bute in five rounds. Bute had a rematch clause and plans to use it. He wants to face Froch in either March or April of this year. Bute claims that Froch's promoter, Eddie Hearn, is trying to discourage him from the rematch. "I told my promoter, Jean Bedard, I want to fight against Froch. We have a solid rematch clause. Froch will come to Montreal, either in March or April. It is a matter of marketing. [Hearn] protects his champion and he sends me little arrows to distract and discourage me, but I know what I want," Bute said.
Former champion Lucian Bute will remain on course for a 2013 rematch with IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch. Both boxers took interim fights in the las few weeks. Bute won a tough decision over Denis Grachev, and last Saturday in Nottingham Froch knocked out Yusaf Mack in three rounds. This past May, Froch stopped Bute in five rounds but the rematch will head to the challenger's turf of Montreal.
Carl Froch quickly turned his attention to a "career-defining" 2013 after seeing off American challenger Yusaf Mack with the minimum of fuss. Froch took over-matched Philadelphian Mack out in three rounds with two stinging body shots in Nottingham as he successfully defended his IBF super-middleweight title for the first time. Mack, who had moved down from light-heavyweight to challenge Froch, was a rare 'soft touch' on paper after Froch's incredible run of elite-level fights in recent years. Now, though, the evergreen 35-year-old is keen to nail down his plans for next year.
Following Saturday's big fight, the critics attacked IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute, who struggled to win a close twelve round decision over inexperienced Denis Grachev at Montreal's Bell Centre. In May, Bute was stopped in five rounds by Carl Froch of Nottingham. An unexpected person has come to Bute's defense. Former light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal, often viewed as Bute's domestic rival, is defending his countryman's performance.
IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch was not impressed with Lucian Bute's decision win over Denis Grachev from Saturday night. But doesn't seem to mind, or care, about Froch's opinion. The win over Grachev will set up a rematch with Froch in early 2013. Froch must surive a scheduled title defense on November 17th against Yusaf Mack. "Even when I had the best performance of my career, Froch spoke ill of me. This is not a surprise to me. He's been talking bad about me for years," Bute said in a televised interview in Romania.
As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Carl Froch was not impressed by Lucian Bute's victory over Denis Grachev - and is planning to give the Canadian "another pasting" if they meet again. Fighting for the first time since he lost his IBF super-middleweight title to Froch in Nottingham, Bute battled his way to a unanimous points win over tough Russian Grachev in Montreal on Saturday night. The result sets up the likelihood of the Romanian-born 32-year-old getting the chance to avenge the only loss of his professional career next year, only this time he will have home advantage. But Froch - who will defend his belt against Yusuf Mack on November 17 isn't bothered about having to go overseas for the rematch.
IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch was not impressed by Lucian Bute's victory over Denis Grachev on Saturday night, and he expects to batter Bute in their planned March/April 2013 rematch. Bute was stopped by Froch in five rounds in May, and returned on Saturday night in Montreal to win a twelve round decision over Grachev. Froch will defend his belt against Yusuf Mack on November 17 in Nottingham. "Let's be honest, it wasn't the most impressive performance from Lucian Bute that I've ever seen," he told Sky Sports. "It wasn't vintage by any stretch of the imagination. Bute didn't really impress, but it was a comeback fight from a devastating defeat against myself, so what did people expect? He needed to find his feet again, find his confidence. I'm sure he's done that. I think mentally he needed to get that fight in the bag.
