Liborio Solis: record, next fight and profile →
The teams for British gladiator Jamie McDonnell and Venezuelan Liborio Solis have agreed to a rematch for the World Boxing Association's bantamweight title, and in doing so they both avoided the orderly purse bid process ordered by the Committee of Championships for this day Monday, July 3, 2017.
The World Boxing Association [WBA] announced earlier today that a rematch must take place between their bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell (29-2-1, 13 KOs) and Liborio Solis (25-5-1, 11 KOs).
Former champion Liborio Solis has officially filed a protest with the World Boxing Association, to challenge his twelve round decision loss to WBA 'regular' bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell, which took place earlier this month in Monte Carlo.
Arriving back in his adopted land of Panama this week, Liborio Solis is remarkably philosophical when talking to BoxingScene.com about his controversial defeat to Jamie McDonnell last Saturday in Monte Carlo. The Venezuelan appeared to many to have done enough to take the WBA bantamweight title from the Doncaster fighter, but the judges ruled otherwise.
Welterweight: Few seem to want it but there is enough smoke to wonder if there might be fire to the idea of a Manny Pacquiao rematch with Floyd Mayweather. Time will tell. Until it does, Pacquiao returns from ‘retirement’ with another decisive win over a top ten contender in 2016.
Monte Carlo - WBA world bantamweight king Jamie McDonnell (29-2-1, 13KOs) was very fortunate to retain his world title over Liberio Solis (25-5-1, 11KOs), a former IBF world champion at super flyweight. The scores were 116-112, 115-113 and 117-111. Many at ringside, including the Sky Sports broadcasters, had Solis winning the fight.
Luis 'King Kong' Ortiz and Malik Scott are ready for battle. They stepped on the scale for the weigh-in for Saturday's heavyweight showdown. Ortiz came in at 239.5-pounds, while Scott was 246.4

The Doncaster star extended his winning run to 20 with a clinical ninth round stoppage win over Fernando Vargas at The O2 in London in April. That win was McDonnell’s fourth successful defence of his WBA crown but the champion is frustrated that his fifth defence is only his second fight of the year.
Liborio Solis is aiming to become the second Venezuelan in recent months to defeat an English fighter when he challenges Jamie McDonnell for the WBA World Bantamweight title in Monte-Carlo on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.
