Liam Smith Embraces Rematch With Liam Williams

Now the dust has settled on the controversial ending to Liam Smith v Liam Williams in Manchester, the rematch continues to be a hot topic in the boxing world.

It was the Welshman who started on the front foot at the Manchester Arena, boxing well as Smith was cut early on. However Williams also suffered a nasty wound on his right eye, which may have opened up moments before a clash of heads. Trainer Gary Lockett decided to pull his charge out of the contest in the ninth round.

In the immediate aftermath, fans took to social media to demand a part two, one arguing that if there is not a rematch “then it will always be considered unfinished business".

There is even a petition calling for the result to be overruled, which has been signed by over 1400 people.

Promoter Frank Warren then stated his intentions of making the fight happen, saying: "If we can make the rematch, [we can] see who’s the best out of Smith and Williams, without the questionable ending. I want to see it again!"

Now Smith, who became the first man to beat Williams, has revealed he is keen for another go, tweeting "Get it made then" in response to Warren's post about the latest cover of Boxing News magazine.

The bloody barnstomer was a real crowd pleaser on Saturday night, but there are plenty of unanswered questions. Considering that all parties are open to a rematch, hopefully fans get to see Smith v Williams part two once the fighters' cuts have healed.
Smith was soundly beaten in every department by williams and williams was robbed IMO
Smith was coming back into it though. Don't forget that williams' corner pulled him out, not the doctor or referee. Rematch definitely required.

There are just some fights that need a rematch. This is one of them.
