WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23KOs) has explained to Sky Sports on why he's not interested in fighting WBC champion Vitali Klitschko, and instead placed his full focus on fighting WBO/IBO/IBF champ Wladimir Klitschko. Haye made it clear at the start of his negotiations for a Klitschko fight, that he was only interested in facing Wladimir, and not Vitali.

David Haye has told Sky's Ringside show that Wlad and Vitali Klistchko need him in order to cement their legacies. Haye is engaged in a bitter feud with the younger Klitschko brother, citing bad blood on both sides when asked why he has not been as vocal about a showdown with WBC boss Vitali. WBA heavyweight champion David Haye is ready to fight WBO/IBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in the fall. Haye is going to make a mandatory defense of his title on May 21 in England. The opponent will likely end up as Ruslan Chagaev or Alexander Povetkin. Following the May defense, Haye is considering the option of one more fight in the fall and then he wants to retire from boxing.

The heavyweight triangle between David Haye, Ruslan Chagaev and Alexander Povetkin was explained by Frank Bleydorn, a representative of Sauerland Event. Sauerland is the co-promoter of Haye and the sole promoter of Povetkin. Bleydorn issued a statement that Chagaev is still the mandatory challenger to Haye's WBA crown. Chagaev's participation in the fight has fallen under question due to his exposure to Hepatitis B. The British Board of Control is likely not going to approve him to fight in the UK.
