Tyson Furyis sparring 'some massive lads' ahead of his world title shot against Wladimir Klitschko on October 24. The unbeaten Mancunian (24-0-KO18) will travel to Dusseldorf to take on the division's kingpin (64-3-KO53), who has not lost in the last 11 years and is expected by many to retain his WBO, WBA Super and IBF belts, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Wladimir Klitschko is the lineal heavyweight champion of the world. That is a designation. He also has plenty of property that comes with the territory, holding three of the four major world titles bestowed by sanctioning bodies. The only one missing is the World Boxing Council belt, which had once belonged to his older brother, Vitali Klitschko, before Vitali retired. Bermane Stiverne went on to win the vacant belt, and then Deontay Wilder topped Stiverne earlier this year. Wilder’s mandatory challenger should he get by Johann Duhaupas on Sept. 26 is Alexander Povetkin.
Tyson Fury says WBA/WBO/IBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko is going to get the fight of his life on October 24th in Germany. The unbeaten mandatory challenger is promising to hand Klitschko his first defeat since 2004. Fury poked fun at Klitschko's career, stating the Ukrainian fighter's best win came against David Haye - who Fury despises and regards as a "coward." Fury and Haye were scheduled to face each other, twice. Both dates, in 2013 and early 2014, were canceled after Haye withdrew with injuries.
It’s not often that the 6-foot-6 Wladimir Klitschko faces someone his size or bigger. But when the heavyweight champion steps into the ring against Tyson Fury on Oct. 24 in Dusseldorf, Germany, he will be facing someone he describes as younger, taller, heavier and with a longer reach. Fury, who is 6-foot-9, reminds Klitschko of someone else he faced in the past, Mariusz Wach. Klitschko defeated Wach by a wide decision in late 2012.
Kevin Mitchell is confident he can be fighting for a world title for a fourth time in February. The 30-year-old London lightweight (39-3-0-KO29) failed in his third world title bid in May when he was stopped by WBC champion Jorge Linares in the 10th round of a thrilling battle at the O2 Arena. But Mitchell is adamant the nasty cuts he suffered were not a result of clean shots from the Veneuzuelan and is determined to push on in his quest for world honours.
I've been to England four or five times now and really love it. Coming from Holland, though, I always have to get used to the differences with the roads. You guys drive on the other side of the road and two days ago I almost got run over! I was looking at the wrong side, the wrong way, walked out and nearly got taken out. It was pretty scary. I nearly had a damn heart attack! Despite these dangers, I always enjoy going to England and hooking up with the Furys. They feel like family to me. It's very natural. It doesn't matter how long I've been away, every time I come here it feels like home.
Hamburg - Undisputed WBC/WBA/WBO/IBO and IBF Female World Welterweight Champion Cecilia Brækhus (27-0-0, 7 KOs) wants to kick off her K2 Promotions/IMG collaboration with a bang, when she takes on German triple-title holder Ramona “Wild Dragon” Kühne (23-1-0, 8 KOs) on the undercard to the Klitschko vs Fury world title clash on October 24 in Düsseldorf. ”The First Lady of Boxing” returns to the ring 11 months after successfully defending her fourth world championship title against IBO title-holder Jennifer Ratzke in an unanimous points victory.
Although we contemplated basing ourselves in Ireland for The Big One, we'll now be in England for the full duration of the camp and then go to Germany one week before the fight. We've got a lot of help here and a set-up already established here. It just made sense, I think, to stay in England for this Klitschko fight. At this point in camp, the work is very focused and intense. The sparring started on Monday and Tyson is well on target. He knows what game plan he has to use and we're working towards that strategy on a daily basis. We'll keep working and working on it until it becomes second nature.
Tyson Fury says becoming the heavyweight world champion "will not be a fulfilment of a dream" and insists he is only interested in becoming the best fighter in British history. Undefeated Fury faces the biggest test of his career to date on October 24 when he takes on IBF, WBO, IBO and WBA (Super) heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko at Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. Ahead of his career-defining fight against Klitschko, Fury has declared he will retire from boxing if he fails to overcome the 39-year-old, whose last defeat came nearly 11 years ago against American Lamon Brewster.
Tyson Fury has prompted a stinging social media reaction from Lennox Lewis after branding Britain's former world heavyweight champion a "jealous has-been". The 27-year-old Mancunian takes on reigning WBO, WBA Super and IBF king Wladimir Klitschko live on Sky Sports Box Office on October 24 and has been critical of the legacy built by the Ukrainian and his brother Vitali - a former Lewis victim.
