British star Amir Khan (30-3, 19KOs) told BBC Radio that there is 'more than a 50 percent chance' of him fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26KOs) on September 12th.

Mayweather, holder of the WBO/WBA/WBC welterweight titles, has promised to return in the fall after winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd.

Khan is deep in training camp as he returns at the end of the month, on May 29th, against former WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri in a Premier Boxing Champions headliner from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Whether or not it comes off, Khan won't chase Mayweather in the manner that he used to.

"There has been a lot of talk that it will be September when Mayweather is back in the ring again," he told BBC Radio 5 live. "I am not going to chase it like I used to chase it. I am going to keep on fighting and if it comes, it comes."

"I want to focus on Chris Algieri right now but I really think it can happen. I can work around [Ramadan]. I am spending more time in the gym before and after training camps, so when I join the camps I am half-way there. I am happy at this weight and feel comfortable. I think I can do the September fight if it happens. It gives me enough time to do my Ramadan and fasting - and then go into training camps for nine to 10 weeks."
