Kell Brook: record, next fight and profile →
Former world champion Junior Witter is still aching over the fact that he never stepped in the ring with his career rival, Ricky Hatton. During their prime runs, a Hatton vs. Witter showdown was the biggest fight to be made in the UK and eventually there was even interest from the American networks to televise the fight.
A deal is nearly complete for Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) to make a mandatory defense of his IBF welterweight championship against undefeated Olympian Errol Spence (21-0, 18 KOs). The IBF had ordered a purse bid, which was scheduled to take place tomorrow, but Brook's promoter Eddie Hearn requested a one week extension as both sides are close to reaching a deal. A deal was expected with Brook's side holding the edge if it went to a purse bid with a 75-25 split.
New York - Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sports was not shy when he was asked about a potential fight between the United Kingdom’s two most popular welterweights, Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KO’s) and Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KO’s). According to Hearn, he spent most of last month trying to make the fight but to no avail because of Khan’s demands on the purse split.
Former world champion Amir Khan is still very eager to get revenge on current WBC welterweight titleholder Danny Garcia. They fought in a junior welterweight unification in July of 2012. Garcia came in on late notice after Lamont Peterson had failed a pre-fight drug test and was pulled from the fight.
Undefeated Olympian Errol Spence (21-0, 18 KOs) has no problem traveling over to the UK for his mandatory showdown with IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, according to Spence's head trainer Derrick James. Brook's promoter, Eddie Hearn, has placed his focus on making a deal with Spence and ongoing negotiations to fight Amir Khan had broken down over the financial terms.
New York - IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KO’s) is in a precarious situation. With a purse bid looming on Tuesday for his mandatory defense against challenger Errol Spence (21-0, 18 KO’s), Brook might be too big for 147 - but he doesn't want give up his world title. Brook’s Promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, says he will do what his fighter wants him to do - but Hearn would prefer to see Brook to move up to 154 pounds.
Matchroom Sports head Eddie Hearn would like to have Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs), but says at the moment Errol Spence (21-0, 18 KOs) is the likely option for Special K's next fight. There is a purse bid scheduled for February 7th. Brook will have to go forward with the fight or vacate the IBF welterweight title. With a 75-25 split in Brook's favor, there is little chance of the fight taking place in the United States.
New York - IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KO’s) has been idle from the ring since he was stopped in five rounds by middleweight Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KO’s) last September at the O2 Arena in London. To take that fight, Brook moved up two weight divisions. But now, Brook has a mandatory defense looming with Errol Spence Jr.
MGM Grand, Las Vegas - In a recent interview, retired former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. accused the entire welterweight division of avoiding Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs). Speaking for himself, former welterweight champion Shawn Porter threw water at Mayweather's statement.
It’s been talked about for years and is a contest all fight fans want to see, but will Amir Khan versus Kell Brook ever happen?
