Keith Thurman: record, next fight and profile →
By Keith Idec - NEW YORK – This should’ve been a completely positive week for boxing, a time for those involved in this heavily scrutinized sport to feel more optimistic than usual about its immediate future. Last Saturday’s card at Barclays Center included a highly competitive, fun fight between super middleweight...
NEW YORK – Danny Garcia has defied odds before. That’s why he knows better than to read too much into handicappers installing Keith Thurman as the favorite in their welterweight championship unification fight March 4 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Philadelphia’s Garcia (33-0, 19 KOs) is a 2-1 underdog against Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs), of Clearwater, Florida, six weeks in advance of their 12-round fight for Garcia’s WBC world welterweight title and Thurman’s WBA world 147-pound championship.
The WBC is extremely concerned with the behavior and actions showcased by Mr. Angel Garcia, who is the trainer of WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia, during the press conference for the highly anticipated fight between Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman.
NEW YORK – Danny Garcia is one of boxing’s biggest targets on social media sites and Internet message boards. Despite that he is 33-0, including 19 knockouts, and has won world titles in two weight classes, there never seems to be a shortage of skeptics eager to criticize the Philadelphia fighter, who’ll face Keith Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) on March 4 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center (CBS).
After a heated press conference, WBC world welterweight champion Danny Garcia shrugged off some of the racially-charged comments made by his father and trainer, Angel Garcia, about WBA ruler Keith Thurman. A fired-up Angel Garcia directed racial slurs towards Thurman ahead of March 4th’s huge welterweight unification at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, live on BoxNation and CBS.
NEW YORK – Keith Thurman has questioned Danny Garcia’s credentials as a welterweight champion. Thurman, basically a career-long welterweight, views Garcia as a proven 140-pound fighter, but an unproven commodity among 147-pounders. Garcia still believes he is more prepared for their welterweight title unification fight March 4 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn because he has beaten better opponents than Thurman.
NEW YORK – Once the cameras were off Wednesday and they had stopped talking trash, Keith Thurman made it clear that he wasn’t offended by anything Angel Garcia did or said during a circus-like press conference at Barclays Center.
NEW YORK - Undefeated Americans Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia, rival champions in a welterweight division where Manny Pacquiao and Kell Brook also claim supremacy, announced a unification fight Wednesday, January 18 for their crowns.
NEW YORK – The last time Keith Thurman fought on CBS, nearly four million viewers watched his battle with Shawn Porter at one point. Thurman hopes he and Danny Garcia can draw twice as many viewers for their welterweight championship unification fight March 4 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Thurman-Garcia fight is one of the most highly anticipated fights on the 2017 boxing calendar, yet different from the rest in that it won’t even cost a premium-cable subscription to watch it.
NEW YORK – Angel Garcia was relatively calm Wednesday until Keith Thurman promised to knock out his son. That’s when Danny Garcia’s father/trainer turned volatile, screaming curses and racial insults during a press conference at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center to officially announce their welterweight title unification fight March 4. Thurman calmly stood at the microphone and talked trash word-for-word with the elder Garcia, who afterward expressed that he accomplished his mission because he believes he made Thurman mad.
