Keith Thurman: record, next fight and profile →
Keith Thurman admires Manny Pacquiao. Right after he watched the 40-year-old Pacquiao defeat Adrien Broner on January 19, Thurman hit the streets for a three-mile run in the wee hours of the morning. Thurman’s long-awaited return to the ring was scheduled for the following Saturday and seeing the aged legend perform that night encouraged him.
Neither Manny Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KOs) nor Keith Thurman (29-0, 22 KOs) are any enigma to us. They’ve been around long enough for us to have seen them at their best and worst. We know what weapons they possess in their arsenals and how they like to utilize them. They have both had their mettles tested against top-notch adversaries and their Achilles Heels have been exposed.
LAS VEGAS – Angel Garcia doesn’t see the same fighter that beat his son when he looks at Keith Thurman these days. Danny Garcia’s father/trainer is convinced that the former WBC welterweight champion took so much out of Thurman physically that he’ll never be the same. Thurman has acknowledged the toll their 12-round, 147-pound title bout in March 2017 took on him.
LAS VEGAS – Shawn Porter doesn’t think Keith Thurman is lying. The WBC welterweight champion expects Thurman to try to knock out Manny Pacquiao early in their welterweight title fight Saturday night. Thurman made news Wednesday, when he said he would bet on himself at MGM Grand’s sports book to win by knockout in the first round, second round and seventh round.
Leonard Ellerbe is convinced that the Manny Pacquiao-Keith Thurman fight will end in a knockout. Ellerbe is so sure Pacquiao and Thurman will aggressively attempt to score a knockout, the Mayweather Promotions CEO thinks their welterweight championship match July 20 might mirror one of the most storied slugfests in boxing history.

Manny Pacquiao plans to teach WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman a painful lesson when the two face off in Las Vegas on Saturday. “I want to teach him, like a professor,” the 40-year-old Pacquiao, who is 10 years Thurman’s senior, told Fox Business on Friday.
LAS VEGAS – The size advantage Keith Thurman thinks will serve him well Saturday night was on full display Friday afternoon. The taller Thurman looked down at Pacquiao as they stood face-to-face following their weigh-in at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Thurman and Pacquiao were the same weight moments earlier, however, when they stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale.
LAS VEGAS – Fourteen years have passed since Erik Morales beat Manny Pacquiao. They fought twice more in 2006. Pacquiao stopped Morales in each of those 130-pound fights, including a third-round knockout in their third meeting in November 2006. Mexico’s Morales, 42, is enjoying retirement. He hasn’t fought since Danny Garcia knocked him out in the fourth round of their rematch in October 2012.
