Keith Thurman: record, next fight and profile →
Keith Thurman Video Interview - Former unified welterweight world champion Keith “One Time” Thurman is back. Thurman proved he is still an elite welterweight, winning a 12-round unanimous decision over former super lightweight world champion Mario “El Azteca” Barrios in the main event of a FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View event Saturday night from Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
By Keith Idec - LAS VEGAS – Keith Thurman got in much-needed rounds Saturday night, but Mario Barrios made the former WBA/WBC welterweight champion earn a win in his first fight in 2½ years. Thurman landed his fair share of power punches on the ever-brave Barrios, but he spent plenty of time moving away from a younger, taller, hungry opponent.
Thurman, Barrios Scorecard BoxingScene Live - Thurman vs. Barrios will see former unified welterweight world champion Keith “One Time’’ Thurman return to the ring to take on former super lightweight world champion Mario “El Azteca” Barrios in a 12-round welterweight showdown that headlines a FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View lineup on Saturday, February 5 from Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS – Mario Barrios will make his debut at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds when he faces Keith Thurman on Saturday night. Barrios also was knocked down three times and stopped by a significantly shorter opponent who moved up in weight when Barrios lost his last fight seven months ago. Though Thurman also lost his last bout by split decision to a shorter southpaw, the legendary Manny Pacquiao, the former WBA/WBC welterweight champion seemingly has obvious advantages over Barrios as their FOX Sports Pay-Per-View main event nears.
LAS VEGAS – Mario Barrios probably wouldn’t have drawn much criticism if he had fought an opponent a lot less dangerous than Keith Thurman in his first fight after suffering an 11th-round, technical-knockout loss to Gervonta Davis.
Keith Thurman will fight Mario Barrios on Saturday night headlining a FOX Sports pay-per-view at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas. Thurman (29-1, 22 KOs) will be returning to the ring from a 931-day layoff. The last time “One Time” was in the squared circle was July 20, 2019 when he lost a spirited split decision to the since-retired Manny Pacquiao. Thurman dropped his WBA welterweight title in the fight, and has since dropped in the welterweight power rankings due to inactivity.
