Keith Thurman: record, next fight and profile →
Jaron “Boots” Ennis apparently hopes his next fight will offer the stiffest test of his burgeoning career. The rising, 25-year-old welterweight contender from Philadelphia was recently asked about whom he plans to fight for his next ring outing in the fall, and two names popped up.
Two-division world champion Danny “Swift Garcia dominated in his super welterweight debut Saturday night, cruising to a majority decision victory over exciting contender Jose Benavidez Jr. in the Showtime main event from Barclays Center in Brooklyn headlining a Premier Boxing Champions event.
There is a clear goal that Keith Thurman always intended to accomplish upon returning to the ring earlier this year. Serving as cannon fodder for the next generation is not on that agenda.
Keith Thurman had a vision of an active year that would end with his becoming a three-time champ. As we creep deeper into the summer, it has become apparent that a three-fight 2022 campaign could be limited to just two fights. There is a shot, however, at fighting for at least a secondary title in lieu of re-entering the welterweight championship mix.
Eddie Hearn remains confident that he can land a top assignment for his swaggering charge Conor Benn. Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, has been vocal about finding an elite opponent for Benn, the hard-hitting welterweight charge from Essex, England, ever since Benn starched Chris van Heerden inside two rounds in April at Manchester Arena in Manchester.
Conor Benn is under no illusions that his preferred fight is unlikely to materialize any time soon, barring some kind of institutional pressure from the sport’s sanctioning bodies.
Conor Benn wants a big name on his burgeoning ledger, and he knows exactly whom he would like that to be. The hard punching, rising British welterweight recently has not been shy about his desire to swap punches with a credible 147-pound contender for this next bout, possibly in July. Benn is coming off a 2nd-round demolition job of Chris van Heerden last month in Manchester, England, the latest victim in a string of over-the-hill contenders Benn has blown out.
Former 147-pound champion Keith Thurman has seemingly found himself to be the odd man out of the welterweight picture following his July 2019 loss to Manny Pacquiao.
The comeback trail for Yordenis Ugas need not include a soft touch. That is the statement that the former WBA welterweight title wishes to make as he recovers from injuries sustained in a tenth-round stoppage loss to Errol Spence Jr. in their three-belt welterweight title unification. Ugas suffered a fractured right orbital bone, eventually prompting the ringside physician to instruct referee Laurence Cole to call a halt to the Showtime Pay-Per-View main event at 1:44 of the tenth round Saturday evening at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Keith Thurman is kicking himself for missing out on an upcoming welterweight unification bout that he believes should have involved himself.
