Keith Thurman: record, next fight and profile →
There will be a final “Showtime Championship Boxing” broadcast after all. BoxingScene.com has learned that Premier Boxing Champions has scrapped its plans for what would’ve been a Showtime Pay-Per-View event December 9 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Showtime instead will televise a three-bout show December 16 from The Armory in Minneapolis.
Keith Thurman will fight once in 2023 after all. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Thurman has agreed to challenge WBA world welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis on December 9 in Las Vegas. The bout between Thurman, a former WBA/WBC 147-pound champion, and
Jaron Ennis and his critics can agree on one thing. He needs an elite-level opponent. So far, Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) has been settling for whoever is willing to step in the ring with him. Karen Chukhadzhian and Roiman Villa were passable but Ennis wanted someone bigger and better. Of course, his preferred choice is Terence Crawford, the welterweight division’s undisputed champion.
Keith Thurman isn’t too interested in feuding with an apparently aggrieved Terence Crawford. Crawford, the undisputed welterweight champion from Omaha, Nebraska, recently went off on a multi-post rant on social media, taking aim particularly at former welterweight titlists Thurman and Danny Garcia.
Keith Thurman vs. Claressa Shields? With a few key conditions, Thurman is apparently on board. A fight between Thurman, the former unified welterweight titlist from Clearwater, Florida, and Claressa Shields, the multi-division champion from Flint, Michigan, widely regarded as the top female boxer in the world today, recently became an
Keith Thurman is hoping his prizefighting fortunes change, if not now, then at least next year. The former unified welterweight champion from Clearwater, Florida, has been plagued by inactivity for the past several years, with his last fight coming in February of last year, when he outpointed Mario Barrios by unanimous decision.
Mario Barrios arrived in Las Vegas about four months ago thinking he would fight sooner than September 30 and against an opponent other than Yordenis Ugas. The WBC ordered a bout between Barrios and Ugas in mid-March for its interim welterweight title. Soon thereafter, though, it looked like Ugas would square off with Keith Thurman, a fellow former 147-pound champion who has long been inactive.
Yordenis Ugas thought for multiple months earlier this year that he would fight Keith Thurman next. The WBC ordered a bout between Ugas and Mario Barrios in mid-March for its interim welterweight title. His handlers later assured Ugas, though, that he would meet Thurman in what would’ve been a pairing of former 147-pound champions.
Don’t color Keith Thurman as impressed by undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford’s one-sided, ninth-round stoppage victory against Errol Spence Jr. in July. Hours after Crawford bashed Danny Garcia for believing a fight was still possible and Thurman for never giving him a crack at a welterweight crown, Thurman weighed in on the topic as well.
Jaron Ennis believes that he’s paid his dues and his time has come. The 26-year-old has looked practically flawless from the beginning. His defense? Impregnable. His offense? Jaw-dropping. Simply put, Ennis looks like he has the goods.
