Katie Taylor vs. Miriam Gutierrez in Play For November

Eddie Hearn, promoter for IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO lightweight champion Katie Taylor, indicates that her next fight will be a mandatory defense against unbeaten Miriam Gutierrez.

Gutierrez, who holds the WBA's interim-title, has an undefeated record of 13-0 with 5 wins by knockout.

The contest is being targeted for a date in November.

Taylor, 34-years-old, is coming off a hard-fought win over Delfine Persoon.

After fighting to a controversial decision victory over Persoon in June of 2019, Taylor set the record straight with a solid decision win in the rematch - which took place last month at Matchroom's Fight Camp in Brentwood.

Hearn was initially looking to stage a card centered around female boxers - which didn't go over too well with Taylor.

Gutierrez, 37-years-old, has played out her entire career in Spain. Taylor would be a serious step up in competition for her.

"Katie Taylor has to fight her WBA mandatory next, which is [Miriam] Gutierrez, that will be on a stand alone card in November that will be announced shortly. That card will have three world title fights on it in total," Hearn told Boxing Social.

"I spoke to Katie Taylor about an all-women’s card. I thought that was a really good idea. Katie Taylor looked at me like she wanted to punch me when I said that. When I started thinking about it I understand what’s she’s saying.

"What they’re fighting for, away from the world championship, is equality. It’s not women’s boxing and men’s boxing – it’s boxing. So actually, when I started thinking about it, listening to what she said, I realised that a women’s only card is detrimental in my opinion to the growth of what we’re trying to do.

I think Taylor is past it to be honest, and the women's sport is improving year on year, she's a bit of a relic of the past at this point and needs to get out soon.
