In his first pro fight at his second home, Chinese-born Kazakhstani light middleweight Kanat Islam got a spirited win over twice-defeated Ghanaian Patrick Allotey for a couple of vacant minor titles.

WBA #5 Islam, not a spring chicken at 32, oupointed his African import over twelve with close scores: 116-112, 116-112, and 117-111 - for vacant WBAFedeLatin and WBO I/C 154lb titles, as well as for an obscure UBC title.

Islam improves to 22-0, 18 KOs, while Allotey is now 34-3, 28 KOs.

Welterweight Zhankozh Turarov (20-0, 14 KOs) didn't experience any significant difficulties in a fourth-round stoppage over another Ghanaian import Isaack Aryee (24-9, 22 KOs).

2013 world amateur champion Zhanibek Alimkhanuly (1-0, 1 KO) made a thunderous pro debut, dropping and stopping well-travelled Columbian veteran Milton Nunez (33-17-1, 29 KOs) at 2:25 of the very first round.

IN OTHER NEWS: ZIMBABWE National Army Boxing coach Steven Masiyambumbi has urged his pugilists to guard against complacency when they plunge into battle in this year's edition of the Zimbabwe National Championships scheduled for Shurugwi next Saturday.The tournament is set to attract more than 200 boxers from all the country's 10 provinces as well as the ZNA.

In an interview yesterday, Masiyambumbi implored his boxers not to dwell much on their past performances as they could be shocked by upcoming fighters at this tournament. Most fighters in the ZNA stable are the defending champions in their respective weight categories.

The tournament will see fighters battling it out in flyweight, bantamweight, light-welterweight, lightweight, middleweight, light-heavyweight, heavy and Super heavyweight categories. Bulawayo Metropolitan Province secretary-general Irvine Mathe said his team have had enough preparations for the competition and they are "ready to rumble".
