MINNEAPOLIS – David Morrell Jr. is a realist. The unbeaten Cuban can call out Canelo Alvarez all he wants, but Morrell doesn’t feel it’ll do much good even in a world where boxers sometimes talk their way into paydays. As much as owning the WBA’s secondary super middleweight title places their names near each other in one sanctioning organization’s rankings, Morrell realizes Alvarez doesn’t consider him a potential opponent in the foreseeable future.

Showtime and Premier Boxing Champions announced a much-discussed spring and early-summer schedule Tuesday. The loaded slate of fights includes seven PBC cards that’ll air live on Showtime and two Showtime Pay-Per-View events, which will feature Errol Spence Jr. and Gervonta “Tank” Davis. From March 26 through July 9, the PBC/Showtime schedule will be highlighted by seven world championship matches, including two title unification fights, and three title eliminators.

Super middleweight prospect Isaiah Steen remained unbeaten, registering a close unanimous decision victory over Kalvin Henderson on the 20th anniversary of ShoBox Friday night in front of a raucous Cornhusker crowd at the Heartland Events Center.

Isaiah Steen stuck and moved his way to a victory over an unbeaten opponent Friday night. Judges Mike Contreras (97-93), Josef Mason (96-94) and Jeff Sinnett (97-93) all favored Steen’s jab and boxing ability in his 10-round fight versus Kalvin Henderson at Heartland Events Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. Cleveland’s Steen defeated Henderson by unanimous decision in their super middleweight match to remain undefeated (16-0, 12 KOs, 1 NC).
