Julian "J Rock" Williams plans to return to the ring in the very near future.

When he does return to the ring he will do so with a new trainer.  The former unified super welterweight champion has advised BoxingScene.com that he will now be working with world class trainer Javan "SugarHill" Steward of Michigan.

Steward is the nephew of the late Emanuel Steward who is known as one of the greatest trainers of all time and ran the famed Kronk Gym in Detroit for several years. SugarHill is best known for his recent work with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury who shocked the boxing world when he knocked out the previously undefeated Deontay Wilder in February.  He has also trained former champions such as Adonis Stevenson, Charles Martin and Anthony Dirrell.

Williams has been out of the ring since his January 18th, 2020 surprise loss to Jeison "Banana" Rosario. In his previous fight he had the best performance of his career when he defeated a then unbeaten Jarrett Hurd by unanimous decision.  With the victory he captured the WBA and IBF super welterweight titles.

The 30-year-old Williams had a rematch clause but instead of opting for an immediate rematch against Rosario, he decided to have surgery to clean up some scar tissue underneath his eyes that had been bothering him.

The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native was previously trained by long time trainer and BoxingScene.com contributor Stephen "Breadman" Edwards.
