LOS ANGELES – After two thrilling victories at his second home at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, Andrew “El Chango” Cancio (17-3-2, 13 KOs) of Blythe, Calif. will return to on Saturday, September 30 to fight in a 10-round featherweight main event live nationally on Boxeo Estelar on Estrella TV. The 27-year old standout previously defeated Nicaraguan warrior Rene “Gemelo” Alvarado former two-time world champion Hugo Fidel “El Increible” Cazares via knockout at the venue and excited the Coachella Valley boxing fans.

Bantamweight Joshua Franco (4-0, 2 KOs) dominated Juan Benavides over six mostly one-sided rounds to win by unanimous decision. Franco stunned Benavides (5-7-1, 2 KOs) at times during the second half of the fight, but Benavides did enough to hold on until the final bell. All fighters took to the scales for the 2016 season premiere of Golden Boy Promotions’ “LA Fight Club” series, which takes place Friday evening at Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Headlining the show, East LA’s own Julian Ramirez faces veteran trialhorse Chris Martin in a schedule 10-round clash. Ramirez (15-0, 8KOs) weighed in at 127.4 lbs., while Martin (28-6-3, 9KOs) – who hails from San Diego tipped the scales at a trim and ready 125.4 lbs. The contracted limit was 126 lbs., with a regional title once at stake. Ramirez not only came in heavy but was unable to get down to the necessary limit. All parties agreed to proceed with what is now a non-title fight, although the unbeaten prospect will have to pay a portion of his purse to Martin and the California State Athletic Commission.

“Why don't more (unbeaten) fighters face each other?” That is a question that boxing fans have asked often, but it seems that questions is being asked more lately. That question seems to be directed at a few fighters who are perceived to be protecting their '0' more than take chances against solid opposition. Julian Ramirez is an unbeaten fighter and still has a ways before he can call himself a legit contender. But the 22-year-old is up to the task of one day facing unbeaten fighters. He will face his toughest challenge to date Friday night when he fights former fringe contender Christopher Martin at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles. The 10 round bout will top a Golden Boy Promotions card and will air live on Estrella TV, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT. RingTVLive will also air the fight, along with preliminary action, beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET/ 5:30 p.m. PT.
