Juergen Braehmer: record, next fight and profile →
During the recent gathering to announce Mikkel Kessler-Brian Magee in Herning, Denmark - promoter Kalle Sauerland confirmed a previous report on BoxingScene.com that WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (35-3, 27KOs) will defend the title against an opponent to be announced ob December 15.
EBU light heavyweight champ Eduard Gutknecht will defend the title against mandatory challenger Juergen Braehmer December 15 in Nuremberg. Both are promoted by Sauerland, who also promotes the event. Gutknecht, 24-1, looked lucky to get a split nod over Tony Averlant last time out but is capable boxer and probably a bit fresher than former WBO king Braehmer, 38-2, who during the last few years has pulled out of more fights than he actually participated in. Early in 2012 he returned to fight for Universum but became a free agent this summer and then signed with Sauerland.
Right before the world championship bout between Arthur Abraham and Robert Stieglitz at the o2 World Berlin, Germany, Juergen Braehmer put pen to paper and signed with the German powerhouse. Effective immediately, Juergen Braehmer is part of Team Sauerland. The former European and WBO Light Heavyweight World Champion is looking forward to be working with the Berliners. “I want to give it another go and become the champ once again,” said the Schwerin, Germany, based boxer. In 2009, Braehmer won the WBO Belt against Dmitry Sukhotsky, which he then lost at the green table last year.
Former WBO light heavyweight champion Jürgen Braehmer (38-2, 30KOs) has signed a long-term agreement with Sauerland Event. Braehmer was under contract from 1999 to 2011 with Sauerland's promotional rival, Universum. Braehmer will make his Sauerland debut in October or November. Braehmer might be placed in position for a title shot by mid-2013.
In a classifed textbook stinker, WBO #11 and WBC #15 featherweight Marcel Meyerdirks (22-0, 5 KOs) continued his reign of slumber with a hard-fought but uniquely dull twelve-round decision over barely capable Argentinean opponent Santiago Allione (19-8-1, 7 KOs).
On April 21 at the Sport and Congress Center in Schwerin, Germany, former light heavyweight champion Juergen Bräehmer (37-2, 30KOs) will face experienced 30-year-old Namibian boxer Vikapita Meroro (29-3, 9KOs). Meroro has never been stopped but recently lost decision to Isaac Chilemba and Braimah Kamoko. Braehmer returned to the ring in January, after nearly two years off, and stopped Jose Maria Guerrero in four.
Universum announced the main fights for their "Fight Night" card, scheduled for April 21 at the Messe-und Kongresshalle in Schwerin.
Hamburg, Germany, Grand Elysee Hotel - Featherweight Marcel Mayerdiercks (20-0, 5KOs) outscored Brazlian Roberto Santos de Jesus over eight.
Former WBO light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (36-2, 29KOs), according to espabox.com, will take on Spaniard Jose Maria Guerrero (29-2, 11KOs) on January 28 in Hamburg. If this fight comes off it will be Braehmer´s first fight since April of 2010. Since then Juergen pulled out of a fight against Alejandro Lakatos with very late notice in July 2010. Then a unification fight against Beibut Shumenov on January 8, 2011 fell through days before the fight due to illness. Finally, Braehmer pulled out of a fight against Nathan Cleverly twice and was then stripped of the title. On a positive note the ex-champ´s legal troubles are out of the way. Guerrero holds the Spanish title at super middle and he is a decent fighter but Braehmer should be able to win relatively easy.
Universum is planning a huge card on the 28th of January at the 5-star luxury hotel Grand Elysee in Moorweide, Hamburg. On the card will be several returns, including former WBO light heavyweight champion Jurgen Bräehmer (36-2, 29KOs) who returns from an 18 month layoff. Also cruiserweight world champion Firat Arslan (31-5-1, 20KOs). Heavyweight hope Denis Boytsov (29 0, 24KOs) will be in actiona, Olympic cruiserweight Rakhim Chakhkiev (11 0, 9KOs) and former heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (27-2-1, 17KOs) will return for the first time since the decision loss to Alexander Povetkin.
