Nacho: Pacquiao 5 Would Be a Hard, Very Difficult Fight

Trainer Nacho Beristain says a fifth bout between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao is nothing more than a money grab. He says another battle between the two fighters adds no value to the sport, and it ruins the historic ending of the fourth meeting from 2012 - where Marquez finally had his hand raised with a sixth round knockout of Pacquiao. He feels strongly that a fifth fight would very brutal for both boxers, because Pacquiao would be hungry to get revenge for knockout loss. Top Rank is targeting a date of November 8, in Macau, for a fifth meeting.

Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez is planning to take an extended rest and then he intends to make decision regarding his future. The biggest fight on the table is a fifth fight, on HBO Pay-Per-View, with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, and Top Rank is targeting a November date in Macau, China. Team Pacquiao is ready to accept the fight, but Marquez's trainer, Nacho Beristain, has no desire to see his boxer face Pacquiao for a fifth time.

BoxingScene.com caught up with HBO commentator Jim Lampley shortly after Juan Manuel Marquez's scintillating victory over Mike Alvarado this past Saturday in Los Angeles. Both fighters hit the canvas but Marquez built an early lead that Alvarado couldn't overcome. Lampley was very impressed by the show put on by both men. "It was a hell of a fight. It was great. He faced Brandon Rios twice, Ruslan Provodnikov and this past Saturday he lost an unanimous decision to future Hall of Famer Juan Manuel Marquez. Prior to Saturday's fight, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum tried to match Marquez against Provodnikov but the Mexican legend opted to face Alvarado instead. When I asked Alvarado who he would favor if a Marquez-Provodnikov showdown ever came to fruition, Alvarado said that Marquez would be in for a very rough fight.

According to trainer Nacho Beristain, Mike Alvarado was very lucky last Saturday night at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The Hall of Fame trainer revealed that Juan Manuel Marquez had a very bad blister on his left foot and it severely bothered him during the fight. Marquez won a dominating twelve round unanimous decision. Nacho was happy with the performance, but says the blister prevented Marquez from closing things out with a knockout when he had Alvarado in trouble.

There was a moment in the ninth, Mike Alvarado dropping Juan Manuel Marquez after being down the round before. The rest of the fight belonged to the future Hall of Famer. One could even have scored the fight 11-0-1, seeing as Marquez won most of the rest of the ninth, and fairly convincingly.

Both ends of HBO’s May 17 televised doubleheader at The Forum in Inglewood, California played to more than 1 million viewers, according to data provided by Nielsen Media Research. The main event, in which Marquez scored a unanimous decision in a fight that saw both fighters hit the canvas, registered 1.198 million viewers, topping out at 1.322 million viewers.

Juan Manuel Marquez chalked up another masterful performance Saturday night as he thoroughly beat Mike Alvarado and has now put himself back in title contention for Manny Pacquiao’s WBO Welterweight title. The question now is will Marquez fight Pacquiao a fifth time in order to fulfill his goal of becoming the first Mexican fighter to win five titles in five different divisions. There are mixed reactions to a fifth installment between these two future hall of fame fighters. Some love the idea these two warriors doing it one more time and others feel we’ve seen enough and would rather see them fight other challengers.
