Juan Macias Montiel: record, next fight and profile →
More viewers watched Jermall Charlo’s tougher-than-expected victory over Juan Macias Montiel than any boxing match Showtime has televised during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jermall Charlo undoubtedly hurt Juan Macias Montiel at least three times during their 12-round middleweight title fight Saturday night. Charlo made Montiel stumble with a right hand early in the fifth round. He rocked the determined Mexican contender with another right hand early in the sixth round and wobbled Montiel with a third right hand that made Montiel hold him just before that round ended.
Jermall Charlo imitated Canelo Alvarez when the topic of meeting Demetrius Andrade in a title unification fight came up at his post-fight press conference early Sunday morning.

By Keith Idec - An awkward, courageous underdog surprisingly took Jermall Charlo the distance Saturday night. Charlo hurt Juan Macias Montiel in the fifth and sixth rounds, but a resilient Montiel survived those troublesome moments, rallied at times and made it to the final bell in a 12-round fight in which he was a huge underdog. Charlo clearly won, but his game Mexican opponent performed admirably against the heavily favored 160-pound champion in front of Charlo’s hometown fans at Toyota Center in Houston.
