The super flyweight world champion of the World Boxing Council, Juan Francisco 'Gallo' Estrada, revealed that he will not fight in December as planned, and has pushed back his next defense until January or February 2020.
Some of the options include a unification with Khalid Yafai or Jerwin Ancajas, or even a trilogy with with Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.
Estrada has had some discomfort in one hand and the doctor has recommended to have more rest, so they ruled out the possibility of fighting on December 13 as expected against Yafai.
"Well, we're happy at the WBC convention, it's the first time I've come, and we're waiting for a date. There was talk of December but we're not coming back until January or February, which is the safest path," said Estrada to ESPN Deportes.
"And we will see what is coming, there is talk of some unification, either Yafai or Ancajas, and if it is not one of them it may be the mandatory, the third with Rungvisai... we have one (won) and one (lost), I think the third would also be good, also people talk about the rematch with 'Chocolatito'.
"And I think it would also be very good.... many say that Román González is no longer the same, but for me he is still a great fighter and would also be something interesting, but let's see what is coming, for now I'll rest well and be ready for when it's time to train."
Estrada, three-time champion in two divisions, is coming off a win over Dewayne Beamon in his first defense of the WBC green and gold scepter, a belt that he conquered from Rungvisai in a rematch held on April 26 at the Forum of Inglewood, California.
