Referee Russell Mora and the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s replay team couldn’t see evidence to render his rematch with Andrew Moloney anything other than a no-contest. Mora is certain he witnessed an accidental clash of heads in the first round that caused that damage to Franco’s face.

LAS VEGAS – Jason Moloney won a fight ESPN televised two days after his twin brother, Andrew, lost his WBA world super flyweight title to Joshua Franco. Now, two weeks after Jason lost to Japanese star Naoya Inoue, Andrew Moloney feels it is his turn to help them take positive vibes on their long trip back home to Australia. Andrew Moloney will return to the same ring Saturday night where each of the aforementioned fights took place to face Franco in their immediate rematch.
Somewhere between suffering the first loss of his career and recovering from two perforated eardrums in said defeat, Andrew Moloney couldn’t help but wonder his next move. Sure, the recently dethroned secondary junior bantamweight titlist was armed with a rematch clause versus Joshua Franco (17-1-2, 8KOs) in efforts to reclaim what was once his. The question was whether his support system would remain intact, or if he would be forced to seek revenge with limited resources.
Winning the title on another promoter’s show comes with its own type of reward. So, too, for Joshua Franco will be defending said belt in a similar setting heading into his rematch with Andrew Moloney. Should a repeat win come of their second battle this Saturday in Las Vegas, the defending secondary junior bantamweight titlist from San Antonio has a more ideal setting for his next adventure.

Before Friday, the former IBF welterweight champion hadn’t squeezed down to that division’s 147-pound limit in nearly 3½ years. Now that he has made weight for his shot at Terence Crawford’s WBO welterweight title, the 34-year-old Brook can pack on as much weight as he wants before he enters the ring Saturday night at MGM Grand Conference Center.

BoxingScene.com has learned that the Nevada State Athletic Commission has assigned Las Vegas’ Patricia Morse Jarman, Las Vegas’ Dave Moretti and Quebec’s Benoit Roussel to score the 12-round, 147-pound championship bout between Crawford and Brook.
