Parker, Opelu Fight Photos Gallery - Former WBO heavyweight world champion Joseph Parker scored a first round knockout win over Australia's Faiga Opelu in their main event bout in Melbourne.
WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury was smiling ear to ear on Wednesday, as he watched close friend and former WBO heavyweight champion, Joseph Parker, score a first round stopped over Faiga Opelu.
Joseph Parker's first career fight in Australia did not last very long at all. The former WBO heavyweight titlist from Auckland, New Zealand picked up his quickest win in nearly eight years with a first-round stoppage of Faiga Opelu. A barrage of punches ended with a right hand to floor Opelu, at which point referee Ignatius Missailidis immediately halted the contest at 1:26 of round one Wednesday evening from Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne.
Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker, 31-years-old, can't afford another career defeat at this stage of his pro run. Parker is back on Saturday night in Melbourne, when he takes on Faiga 'Django' Opelu in a ten round fight.
A slimmer version of Joseph Parker will be on display this week. The former WBO heavyweight titlist was 239.9 pounds for his scheduled ten-round bout versus Faigo Opelu, officially weighed 214 ¾ pounds during Tuesday’s pre-fight weigh-in ceremony. The two will meet Wednesday evening atop a Main Event Pay-Per-View from Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
